What makes a great game of sport?

Ever sat back and thought what makes a great game of sport? and why people love different sports?

I was thinking the other day that if you could create the perfect sport that everyone liked then you could possibly stop all wars, or start one! The glue that holds our favourite games together for us is our passion.

For me personally, its the NRL but for others they like nothing better than seeing Beckam bend one or Tiger Eagle the ninth. It's always great to reminisce on the great games that brought out the best of your sports people on the day.

One such game for me was the 1998 semi final Bulldogs vs Parramatta. Two great sides fighting for the grand final and my Bulldogs were 18 to 2 down with about fourteen minutes to go. At the time I was there with my future wife, who never had a strong following of league and i guess we were both overwhelmed by the number of people and the abuse we were coping from Parramatta supporters in the stands.

Sitting there biting my nails, the Bulldogs edged their way back and ended up winning the match. That moment to this day gives me goosebumps when i think about the adrenaline, excitement and joy at my team winning. I guess Parramatta supporters saw it a different way but it is one of the reasons I continue to love the game.

I have also had many great moments playing sport and I have always tried to instill into my son the importance of sportsmanship and the attitude of never giving up. Too many times playing indoor cricket we have thought that we would lose the game but never gave up and ended up winning or at least getting so close that we made the other team fight for the win.

Our sports stars are a valuable commodity for our community and that's why its important that they show the basic disciplines of sportsmanship and competitiveness. This attitude rubs off on their young fans and helps them get the most out of their sports and life in general.

The work that all the sports stars are doing in Queensland at the moment is unselfish and important for the community. The people of Queensland have always given us their all when it comes to sport. The record crowds that attend games each weekend are testament of that and the pride that players have in their state is undeniable.

Tell us about the best game that you have watched (no matter which sport) and what it meant for you.
